Find a haven of wildlife, jungle, and towering limestone rocks in a small valley just north of Kuala Lumpur. Join a local guide on the jungle trails, picnic spots, cascading streams, and cool, clear pools of Templer's Park for a convenient escape from the urban scene in a setting teeming with life.
The 1.25-mile-long (2-km) long park likes just beyond the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur and more than 13 miles (22 km) from the urban city center, with its entrance just off the busy trunk road to Ipoh. You can find several picnic areas along the park's streams as you follow a path from the parking lot to a swimming pool on your way to the nearby waterfall.
As your guide leads you through the park, the almost-level path takes you across the stream several times. Atop the final, tall cascades, you can find a few nice, bathtub-like pools, perfect for a relaxing dip. Along the way, keep an eye out for the diverse species of local flora and the native birds that make the park home.
