The Golden Triangle’s Three Kings

There are plenty of shopping areas located within Kuala Lumpur’s trade and commercial hub known as the Golden Triangle, a triangular-shaped district formed by the meetings of three of Kuala Lumpur’s main streets: Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Chulan. However, there are three main shopping areas which are deemed the ‘kings’ of the Golden Triangle: Bukit Bintang, KLCC and Chinatown.

Bukit Bintang:

Located alongside Jalan Bukit Bintang, this trendy, bustling area offers everything from shopping centres to nightclubs. Combining historical charms with contemporary chic, this area has managed to retain its popularity over the years, both with locals and visitors alike. Some of the city’s major shopping centres can be found here, suiting every budget and need, from premium malls to speciality outlets. There are also plenty of options available within this area for dedicated foodies, from posh restaurants to hawker stalls, offering all kinds of mouth-watering delights to suit every palate and budget.

KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre):

At once an entertainment, commercial and business focal point, KLCC is home to some of the most popular landmarks in Malaysia, making it a popular tourist destination. With a host of options to choose from – dining, arts, culture, recreation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment – you won’t be stuck for ideas on what to do around here. Amongst its most popular attractions are the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers, Aquaria KLCC, Petrosains, and Suria KLCC, an immense, crescent-shaped shopping centre situated next to the scenic KLCC Park.

Chinatown:

Deeply immersed in Oriental culture, heritage and history, Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia. For those looking for a piece of Chinese culture, look no further as a lot can be found traded here, such as Chinese restaurants and old-town coffeehouses called ‘kopitiams’, and shops selling traditional Chinese medicines and costumes. Chinatown is also a well-known shopping district. At night, the whole area transforms into a lively and vibrant night market commonly referred to as ‘Petaling Street’. Central Market, where a wide selection of locally-produced handicraft and souvenir items can be found, is also nearby.
