Sandakan Wildlife Highlight Tour

3 days 2 night from MYR 1,345

Stretching 560km from the Crocker Range in the southwest of Sabah to the Sulu Sea in the east, the Kinabatangan River sustains one of the world's richest ecosystems. Home to Borneo’s indigenous species, the orang utan and the proboscis monkey, the lower basin of the river has the largest concentration of wildlife in South-East Asia, including some endangered and endemic species. A trip up the river is the best way to catch a glimpse of some wildlife – if you’re lucky, you might even get to see an Asian elephant or a Sumatran rhinoceros wandering among the trees.

Sandakan Wildlife Highlight Tour - 3 Days 2 Nights

Day 01 SANDAKAN-SEPILOK-SUKAU (L/D)
The tour starts with an early morning flight to the historic town of Sandakan, before being transferred to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. After lunch at the cafeteria, a drive to Sukau follows where you will be checked into one of the river cabins. Relax by the river before taking a boat ride up along Sabah's longest river, the Kinabatangan River, with plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. A dinner wraps up the day, followed by an overnight stay in Sukau.
Day 02 SUKAU (B/L/D)
Wake up to the melodic sounds of nature. A morning cruise up the Kinabatangan River commences at 6 a.m., straight on to Kelenanap ox-bow lake for a spot of birdwatching. A short walk through the jungle follows (if the weather permits), giving you an opportunity to admire Borneo’s wilderness from a close range, before returning to the cabins for a hearty breakfast. Afterwards, enjoy some free time where you are able to explore the surrounding areas or nearby villages at your own leisure. In the evening, take a boat cruise along the river where you can catch a glimpse of the rainforest’s flora and fauna.
Day 03 GOMANTONG CAVE-SANDAKAN (B/L)
Depart for Sandakan, of which there will be a brief stop at the Gomatong Caves on the way. Lunch will be followed by a short city tour of Sandakan before being transferred to the airport to catch your flight back or driven back to your hotel in Sandakan.
Notes: The above itinerary may be modified without notice, due to tidal changes.
