Located northwest of Kota Belud, Mantanani Islands consist of a group of three isolated islands – so isolated that until recently, the islands’ existence were only known to a few locals. Situated approximately 45 minutes via speedboat from the mainland, these islands provide the perfect opportunity for divers and snorkelers to indulge their passions, with an underwater landscape that acts as a playground for some rare, exotic marine species such as lionfish, glassfish, leatherback turtles and a group of gentle sea creatures belonging to the dolphin family called ‘sea cows’, or better known locally as ‘dugong’.
