Constituting the main entrance point for the summit trail that leads to Mount Kinabalu, Kinabalu Park is located at 1,585 metres above sea level and features an unparalleled ecosystem that is home to some rare and endangered species. It is said to have one of the world’s richest flora collections, from alpine meadow plants to coniferous forests. Granted a World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2000, the park covers a staggering area of 754 square metres, which is essentially bigger than Singapore. The park comes complete with visitor facilities which include accommodation, restaurants and exhibit centres, making it a popular getaway for folks wishing to escape from the manic lifestyle of the city.
