At 830 metres above sea level , Penang Hill provides a panoramic view of the island from its peak. Take a 30 minutes ride on the furnicular rail service from the base at Jalan Air Terjun to its peak. Then , visit the modest kampung house of the great Malay artiste P.Ramlee. There are photographs chronicling his years in the Malay film industry as an actor , singer, director, producer and of his early life in Penang where he grew up. Fort Cornwallis is the site where Sir Francis Light first landed in 1786 . Initially the fortress comprised a wooden structure till 1804, when it was reconstructed with bricks using convict labour. Today structures inside the fort that have survived the test of time include the Christian chapel, a gunpowder magazine, cell rooms, flagstaff, harbour lights and several cannons. Thereafter, visit a shop for you to purchase native local products such as the famous Penang tau sah peah (bean paste biscuit), belacan (shrimp paste), salted fish and nutmeg products. Proceed to the trishaw terminal, where you take a 10 minutes trishaw ride along Jalan Penang to New Lane hawker centre for you to savour irresistible hawkers delights such as laksa, prawn noodles, chicken rice, char kway teow, loh bak, nasi kandar, roti jalar, satay and an array of Nyona foods (meals at own expenses) After a delightful meal, visit night market (pasar malam) which offers goods ranging from household items to clothes, knick-knacks and food. (Note :- If it rains, pasar malam will change to Gurney Plaza Shopping Centre).
